In this project, we constructed a 12 to 13 foot pitless waterfall feature for a backyard. We began by excavating the pit for the waterfall and tank, ensuring it was level for proper water flow.
Next, we installed a removable liner throughout the pit to make cleaning effortless for the homeowners. This was especially important considering the surrounding pine trees, which could shed needles and debris into the water.
We then shaped the waterfall using rocks, creating a streambed with a felt underlayment for added protection. A unique feature we incorporated was a center “pinch point” at approximately 9 feet up the waterfall, where the water flow would be channeled before cascading over the rocks. To add visual interest, we also installed three separate waterfall drops at varying heights.
Finally, we ensured all the sidewalls surrounding the pit were at least knee-high for safety and had a visually pleasing aesthetic. This 12 to 13 foot waterfall with its center pinch point, three drops, and removable liner should not only be a beautiful addition to the backyard but also a low-maintenance water feature for the homeowners to enjoy.
